Get the Most Out of Your Online Lessons

A great online lesson starts before you log in. Simple habits before, during and after that double what you get from every session.
One hour with a teacher is valuable — make it count. These habits will get you far more from every lesson.
Before the lesson
- Send your teacher a goal. "I want to feel confident ordering in restaurants" beats "just chatting".
- Note three things you struggled with this week — a tense, a sound, a situation. Bring them.
- Check your setup: headphones, decent light, quiet room. Good audio alone improves a lesson enormously.
During the lesson
- Speak more than your teacher. You''re paying to practise, not to listen. A good teacher will let you do most of the talking.
- Don''t fear silence. Take the time to build a sentence. It''s better than switching to your native language.
- Ask to be corrected. Tell your teacher how much correction you want — some learners want every mistake, others want flow first.
After the lesson
- Review your notes within 24 hours, while the lesson is fresh.
- Pick one thing to practise before the next session, and tell your teacher you''ll report back. Accountability works.
Be consistent
Two 30-minute lessons a week beat one occasional marathon. Little and often is how languages are built — and it keeps momentum between you and your teacher.
